Yoso is a family operated business that was started by brothers Erik Lo and Francis Lo. The brothers came to Canada in the eighties. Erik studied both food science and dairy technology while Francis studied agribusiness at the University of Guelph. It was Guelph that they started experimenting with ideas for a gourmet dairy free spread made with locally grown soybeans in southwestern Ontario.
The Lo brothers are continuing a family tradition with their business. Their grandfather Dr. K.S. Lo was a visionary who was the first to commercialize soy milk in the 1940 in Hong Kong and founded what is known as Vitasoy International Holdings today. Their father, Frank Lo, was a dairy scientist of dairy free cheese and an inventor who held two US patents dated back in 1970s. Frank was one of the two sons took over the management of his family business until his retirement. Frank was an inspirator of Erik and Francis. Today, the Lo brothers strive to deliver their dairy-free, gluten free, casein-free, vegan, fermented and cultured foods to all to enjoy.
At Yoso, we treat everyone fairly and we aim to nourish a positive environment for everyone. Most of team members are from our local community, and most of them have been with us for many years. They came from all different ages, nationalities and culture. However, we are all selflessly devoted to do one thing: To make the best tasting dairy-free product!
We are dedicated to creating nutritious and wholesome products that support our health, our community, and our planet. We continually strive to source the healthiest ingredients to create great tasting foods that all can enjoy. We are passionate about supporting our local community in Cambridge, Ontario, paying fair wages to our staff and suppliers, and reducing our waste and keeping our environmental footprint at a minimum.
All of Yoso’s products are made in a facility that is gluten-free, wheat-free, dairy-free, egg-free, peanut-free, preservative-free, carrageenan-free, casein-free, and vegan. We have a strong commitment to doing the best we can, to bring you the best, and strive towards continually improving our products, our availability and our service. Our soy based products are made from local grown organic soybeans grown in Southwestern Ontario that are fermented and cultured. Our coconut based products are made from pure organic coconut. All our yogurts provide a good source of calcium, a source of prebiotic dietary fibre with non-dairy bacterial culture (Lactobacillus Acidophilus). Most of our products are nut-free with the exception of our new premium creamy Cultured Almond and Cashew. We take the issues of cross-contamination very seriously and we take every precaution to ensure that our products are free of undeclared allergens. Our production systems and staff are all dedicated to the proper handling and care of ingredients from the time they are received, properly labeled, and safely stored. We do not allow any allergens into the production room until the previous product has been completed and all materials and packaging have been sealed and removed.
